Papua New Guinea’s lush, mountainous landscape, enriched by fertile volcanic soil, creates the perfect environment for cultivating bold, flavorful Arabica coffee. However, the region’s rugged terrain makes transportation a challenge. With 85% of PNG’s coffee production coming from smallholder farmers in remote villages, many rely on foot travel or light aircraft to move their harvest.
Simbai Balus Kopi, or "Simbai Airplane Coffee," hails from the Simbai region, just beyond the Bismarck Range, near the Western Highlands and Sepik Provinces.
Every batch of Simbai coffee embarks on a unique journey—first, farmers must transport their beans to the nearest airstrip, a trek that can take an entire day. From there, the coffee is flown out, weighed in parchment, recorded, and carefully stored in our importers’ warehouses, ensuring its quality is preserved every step of the way.
