Costa Rica Bella Vista
Grown, processed, and dried entirely at Bella Vista Estate in Tres Ríos — one of Costa Rica's oldest and most respected coffee-growing regions — this SHB washed Caturra and Catuai thrives at elevations above 1,400 masl. Volcanic soils, shade-grown cultivation, and the region's well-defined wet and dry seasons combine to produce the balanced, sweet cup profile that has made Tres Ríos a benchmark origin for specialty coffee roasters.
In the cup: brown sugar, honey, caramel, vanilla, cocoa, panela, and milk chocolate, with balanced acidity, a smooth body, and a clean, sweet finish.
A Family Tradition Since 1904
Bella Vista's coffee-growing history began in 1904, when Arnold André Vessel — who had arrived from Germany in 1898 — acquired the property and established the family's coffee business in Tres Ríos. More than 120 years later, the Vessel family still oversees every stage of production on-site: shade cultivation, selective hand-harvesting of ripe cherries, eco-friendly milling, and sun drying.
That continuity is part of what defines Bella Vista's coffee. Rather than reinventing its approach with each harvest, the estate has built up generations of knowledge, applying it season after season to protect the qualities that have long distinguished coffee from this region. The result is a cup that reflects both the character of Tres Ríos and the steady hand of a family that has worked this land for over a century.
Tres Ríos is often called the "Bordeaux of Costa Rica" — a nod to its long-standing reputation among specialty roasters. Volcanic soils, mountain elevation, and distinct wet and dry seasons allow coffee cherries to ripen slowly, developing the sweetness, acidity, and structure the region is known for. Rather than intensity, Tres Ríos coffees are prized for balance — a harmony that has kept the region among Costa Rica's most recognized origins for generations.
One Estate, Start to Finish
What sets Bella Vista apart is that nothing leaves the family's hands until the coffee is ready for export. Cultivation, selective harvesting, milling, and sun drying all happen on-site, giving the estate full control over quality and consistency at every step. This integrated, at-origin model is what allows Bella Vista to deliver a coffee roasters can count on, harvest after harvest.
